A Message
from Chris Smith, Executive
Director |
The work place skills that insured success in the 20th
century are not the same set of skills needed for success in
the 21st century work environment. There is a new emphasis on
creative, innovative, and adaptive thought process. Employers
say they want workers who possess not only a good work ethic
plus good oral and written communication skills, but critical
thinking, problem solving skills, and the willingness to be a
"team" player in an increasingly diverse workforce as
well. Clermont 20/20 is fortunate to have a
talented group of community board members and volunteers
serving the organization from both the educational sector
(high schools, vocational schools, college) as well as
representation from a cross section of Clermont County
employers, major corporations and small to mid size
entrepreneurial firms. This array of
volunteer talent by dedicated community leaders allows
Clermont 20/20 a unique position in the community. It allows
Clermont 20/20 to serve as a bridge and channel for
information between Clermont employers and those that shape
and direct our students and future workers coming through the
educational pipeline. It is a team building process that leads
to stronger partnerships and collaboration. By establishing
this dialog and building a broader base of leaders across all
sectors of Clermont County, Clermont 20/20 "connects" the
challenge of meeting workforce development needs. This is an
important connection and one that must be nurtured and
expanded upon. Numerous countries around the
globe will have the advantage of lower labor rates for the
foreseeable future. What will allow us to prosper will be the
development of innovative, creative, and adaptive thinking
skills. The opportunity to make the required connections
between educational outputs and the immediate and productive
use of those results by Clermont County's array of employers
will be a major determinant on future business growth,
investment levels, job creation, prosperity, and employment
choices for all of our citizens.

A Call to 20/20
Alumni |
One of the new initiatives recommended by the LEAD
Clermont Advisory Task Force and approved by the Clermont
20/20 Board at their June meeting was to request that previous
LEAD graduates team up with and mentor the new participants /
enrollees in this year's LEAD class. This is an
excellent way to stay connected to Clermont 20/20 in general
and engaged as a mentor to one of our new class participants.
It is a talented and impressive incoming group of leadership
participants. We hope that you will agree to broaden your
network by participating. The mentoring is
whatever you and your class partner agree to. It could be as
simple as a once a month meeting over a cup of coffee to
discuss Clermont 20/20, the community project undertaken, the
particular class topic coming up (or just completed), Clermont
County issues, leadership opportunities, etc. The contact and
content of discussions can be as broad and wide ranging as you
wish. Our hope is that we create a helpful and
informative connection between Clermont LEAD alumni and the
current attendees in order to enrich and broaden the positive
experience for current class participants and alumni
alike. Please indicate your willingness to be a
mentor by responding to Julie Graybill at Julie.graybill@clermontchamber.com. Thanks
for your support of this Clermont 20/20 signature
program.

Leadership
Alumni News & Events |
As a graduate from a Clermont 20/20, Inc.
Leadership program, if you have an announcement you
would like to share please send your information to officemgr@clermont2020.org.
This effort is brought to you
by the LEAD Class of 2008.
Look to
Clermont Graduates - where are you now?
Nick
Graser has had a busy time since he graduated
with the Look to Clermont Class of
2005. As he juggles school and work
responsibilities, we asked him to share some of the
events of his life after graduation.
"I
co-coordinated the responsibility to provide rocks for
the Matt Maupin Pavilion in East Fork, selected for
Buckeye Boys State, Hi-Y president senior year at New
Richmond High School, Student Council
Treasurer, involved in US Air Force ROTC Det. 643
at Wright State University, Look Advisory Committee,
and College Republicans. For the last 2 years I have
attended the Conservative Political Action Conference
(CPAC) in Washington D.C, where I have gained much of
my insight on my political views. I have the utmost
respect for any of those past and present that have
served our country. I left ROTC after weighing out the
options and decided to transfer to the University of
Cincinnati in pursuit for a bachelors degree in
Criminal Justice. I qualified for the dean's list
twice at Wright State, and once so far at UC. I
am wrapping up my junior year at UC while training for
a new job as a private investigator through Matrix
Investigations. I was asked to give a speech to
the Look to Clermont students this past year where I
mainly told them where I am now, how I got here, and
what inspired me to be here. As I said to them, 'I
don't think I would have been motivated to join
leadership programs if it hadn't been for 20/20. After
being selected it gave me a sense of direction that in
turn encouraged me to be involved that has eventually
led me to where I am today; actively seeking a degree
in Criminal Justice in hopes to someday land a career
in investigations or crime prevention.' In my spare
time I love playing and watching sports, especially
baseball, golf, tennis, basketball, and football,
hanging out with friends and family, and of course
spending time with my wonderful girlfriend of almost 4
years. Between my family and girlfriend I am able to
stay focused and remain on the right track to get
where I want to be. Finally, I live to be
outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. I
love camping, cornhole, and cookouts."
