Best Class Ever!
Join Us March 4th |
Holiday Inn Hotel &
Suites Cincinnati-Eastgate March 4, 2010 11:15 AM -
1:00 PM
Regardless of the year you graduated, one thing that
always marks a LEAD Clermont graduate is being part of the
"Best Class Ever". Claiming to be part of the Best Class Ever
is something that has helped create a bond among people who
have gone through the LEAD program at Clermont 20/20. This
"bond" has served as a basis for connecting individuals from
across the private and public sectors who share knowledge and
perspective with each other as well as developing lasting
relationships. In 2010, Clermont 20/20 is
celebrating its 20 th Year Anniversary and Thursday
March 4 th is a special event to recognize the
importance and value individuals bring to community
leadership, and the benefit Clermont 20/20 has provided to
this effort. Why not renew your connection with your
colleagues by attending our luncheon and celebrating with us?
We'll be happy to accommodate any class that would like to sit
together and maybe get a little "Best Class Ever" cheer
competition going. We'd love to see you!
The Class of 2010 will be in attendance as part of their
Quality of Life class day and are interested in meeting other
leaders who have experienced the program. Please
register online at www.clermont2020.org
or call Clermont 20/20 at
513.753.9222. See you on March
4th! |

"Under the Sea
Prom"
This project team is working with the
Clermont Board of Developmental Disabilities to sponsor a prom
for high school-age students with disabilities who attend the
Wildey School, as well as students in other area high schools
who want to attend this dance instead of (or in addition to)
their home school's prom. The nautical theme is
"Under the Sea," and the dance will be held at the Day Heights
Fire House Community Room near Milford on Saturday, Feb. 27,
from 6-10 p.m.
The group is seeking donations of gently-used prom
dresses, men's dress shirts and ties. Volunteers also can
earn service hours and are needed for the following jobs:
decorating, refreshments, socializing/dancing during the event
with attendees, and event clean-up. Questions, please contact
Lisa Davis at 513-732-4921 or Terri Rechtin at
513-753-9222.

LEAD
Clermont Class The Best Way to Visit the
Jail
Clermont County has much to be proud of in its criminal
justice system as discovered by the Clermont 2020 LEAD Class
2010 in its day long session at the Sheriff's
office. A justice system that is fair but respects
the dignity of each individual person is the order of the
day. Sheriff A. J. Rodenberg certainly exemplifies
leadership by example and gave many examples of how the
Sheriff's Department is run and benefits by this leadership
style. Even with limited funding our narcotics
unit is very vigilant about being proactive in eradicating the
drug of choice at any given time. Bill Williams, the
Drug Unit Commander, talked with the class about how the drug
unit operates and the efforts it is taking to eradicate drug
trafficking. The Honorable Judge Stephanie Wyler,
our only juvenile court judge, makes the maximum effort to see
that these kids get the help they need to turn their lives
around and not just a meted out standard punishment for
wrongdoing. To show how this works in action three of
Judge Wyler's employees shared how they worked as a
collaborative unit. Judy Farley, Chief Probation
Officer, Tom DelGrande, Superintendent of the Detention Center
and Mike Rosser, Program Manager, are firm proponents of
treatment and rehabilitation for juvenile offenders and then
as a result not having to incarcerate them as
adults. It was interesting to learn of the
differences in canine dogs. One dog, as demonstrated by
Deputy Meredith Walsh, is taught to recognize five different
classes of drugs, find them and wait patiently for his handler
to come and get them. Another, demonstrated by Deputy
Gary Summers, is specially bred and trained to find a missing
person be it a child or an Alzheimer's patient by the scent
from his/her clothing or personal items. Homeland
Security is at work on our local county level. Chief Jim
Whitworth from the Miami Township Fire and EMS talked about
procedures and showed us some of the equipment available for
use in an emergency. The day ended with a tour of
the Clermont County jail. The class was impressed by how
clean, well kept and efficiently run it was. The
discouraging part is that because of the current economy a
large part of the jail space is not being utilized and
therefore those convicted must be put on a waiting list until
there is jail space for them. The day was planned
and carried out by Julie Pederson, with the YWCA, and Tom
Curee, with TQL, with help from their 2020 LEAD advisor Barb
Davis. Clermont 20/20 is currently recruiting
participants for the 2011 LEAD Clermont class which will have
its orientation in July and two-day retreat in August
2010. If you are interested in the program and/or would
like to receive more information, please contact Andy
McCreanor, Director, Leadership Development at 753-9222 or www.clermont2020.org.

COLLEGE NEWS YOU CAN USE
State-Wide Free Financial Aid Event to be held at UC
Clermont College
UC Clermont Collegewill once again host the
state-wide college financial aid event "College Goal
Sunday" (CGS) on February 14, 2010 at 2 p.m. The free
event, presented by the Ohio Association of Student
Financial Aid Administrators (OASFAA) and endorsed by
the Ohio Board of Regents, assists students and parents
with completing the Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is the federal application that
is required to receive federal financial aid including
the Federal Pell Grant and student loans as well as the
need-based state grants. Due to the great demand
expected for assistance in completing the FASFA,
families are encouraged to register for the free event
at www.ohiocollegegoalsunday.org or by calling
1-877-428-8246. The FAFSA is the key to funding a
college education and helping families to overcome
financial barriers that otherwise prevent students from
attending the institution they want to. Studies
show that a student is 50% more likely to attend college
when they complete the FAFSA. While walk-ins are
welcome, registration is encouraged. Record
numbers are expected to be in attendance. If you
would like more information about this event or have
questions about Clermont 20/20's college access program
contact Nancy Hall, Program Director, at nancy.hall@clermont2020.org or
513-753-9222.

Alumni News & Events |
As a graduate from a Clermont 20/20, Inc.
leadership program, if you have an announcement you
would like to share please send your information to officemgr@clermont2020.org.
This effort is brought to you
by the LEAD Class of 2008
We wish
the following Alumni and Friends of Clermont
20/20 a Happy Birthday !!!
Happy Birthday Aquarians!
(January 20 - February 18) Because of their
high focus on intellectual exploration, many inventors,
eccentrics and highly original trailblazers are born
under this sign. Their intense ability to live on many
mental levels, holds both pain and pleasure for
Aquarians. For example, in the American Hall of Fame
there are more Aquarians than any other sign, yet
statistics reveal that in mental institutions there are
more Aquarians than any other sign too. But in everyday
terms, most Aquarians are extremely humanitarian and
often involved in social programs that assist others.
They can also be objective in judgment, for they never
let their emotions get in the way. Outgoing and amiable,
Aquarians attract friends wherever they go and those
whom Aquarians befriend have their unswerving
loyalty.

Happy Birthday Pisceans
(February 19 - March 20) Pisceans are usually
associated with being extremely creative, sensitive, and
artistic, as well as a healthy fascination with the
metaphysical and spiritual. Aptly called "old souls",
Pisces thirst for spiritual knowledge and personal
growth. They are the twelfth, and last, of the Zodiac
signs, and as such, tend to have a more finely tuned
intuition, sixth sense or extrasensory ability to
perceive others feelings. In the right situation a
Pisces can be capable of incredible deeds. The positive
nature of a Pisces and the fact that they are tuned into
the feelings of others makes them socially popular. They
are very intuitive and as a result can be flexible and
prosper in many different situations.
