"The Best
Class Ever" |

Andy
McCreanor Executive
Director
I was at another meeting today with a group
discussing Clermont 20/20's High School Mentoring
Program when it happened again. About ten minutes into
the meeting someone made the comment about being in the
LEAD Class of 2003, then another chimed in that she was
a LEAD grad of the Class of 2008, another immediately
commented that he too was a member of the LEAD Class of
2008, and 2-3 others, myself included, proudly stated
our class year along with the standard "Yeah, the Best
Class Ever!" Invariably when the statement of being a
LEAD Clermont graduate is made, it is always followed
quickly with pride with the comment "The Best Class
Ever". The connection of being a LEAD
graduate and part of "The Best Class Ever" is something
that I've gotten more curious about. For example, when
you add up all of the years the LEAD Clermont program
has existed, Clermont 20/20 has produced over 400 of the
best class of leaders for Clermont County and the
region. I can't honestly tell you what each of the Lead
graduates is up to these days but I can tell you without
hesitation that I run into them everywhere. It's a great
feeling as the Executive Director of the organization to
see how many people are engaged in the community in so
many ways. Whether its time someone can give or taking
the lead on an initiative, LEAD graduates are alive and
well and doing good things for the
community. When I think about it it's a
Linked-In kind of thing. We're a special group of people
who can and should stay connected to each other as we
march through our years of service to our professions
and community service. More importantly, we veteran
leaders need to help the next generation of leaders find
their footing so they can get in position to "take the
reins". This transition doesn't happen quickly. It
takes deliberate effort, financial resources, and often
times, courage to keep the needle moving in the right
direction. Without leadership the right direction is
unlikely to be continuously developed. So
I'm proud of the work Clermont 20/20 has accomplished in
its first 19 years of service to Clermont County and
look with optimism to the challenges that must be
overcome in the years ahead. The record of
accomplishment of LEAD Clermont graduates clearly
indicates that not only will these challenges be met;
ingenuity, initiative, and innovation will reinforce the
direction of our future. Thanks to those
who have been and will be LEAD Clermont
graduates. Andy McCreanor LEAD Clermont

River
Cleanup |
| |
 |
The
Ohio River thanks you! On Saturday, June 20th the
Clermont 20/20 Clean and Green Program and ORSANCO (Ohio
River Valley Water Sanitation Commission) hosted the
annual Ohio River Sweep. Volunteers removed trash
and debris from the Ohio River shoreline, riverbank and
river tributaries. Four riverfront staging areas were
established in Clermont County: Chilo Lock #34 Park,
Neville - Indian Mound Campground, Moscow -
Village Hall and in New Richmond at the riverfront
Bandstand.
River Sweep, sponsored regionally by
ORSANCO and its partners and locally by the
Adams-Clermont Solid Waste District and the Clermont
County Office of Environmental Quality, is an annual
riverbank cleanup that has grown to one of the largest
cleanup efforts of its
kind.

When I Grow Up I Want
to Be...
When you were a child, what was your dream
profession? What did you want to be when you grew
up? The list of popular dream professions is long
and diverse, including doctor, astronaut, police
officer, scientist, rock star, actor, fireman, clergy,
teacher, nurse, artist, lawyer, paramedic, dancer,
athlete... the list goes on. It's
interesting to note the common denominators of these
desirable professions. Each offers an opportunity
to touch people in a meaningful way. They are all
about a wish to accomplish something far above
average. Of course we want to live a meaningful
life! As children we dream about ways to make a
difference, to help others, and to express
ourselves. Rather than passive roles, we are drawn
to professions that reflect our hopes of becoming
dynamic individuals making important, lasting
contributions to society and the world. We don't
want to be dependent, always on the receiving end.
We want to be proactive, on the giving end. This
giving may involve helping people in need or exciting
and inspiring those around us through our personal
accomplishments. In either case, we aspire to
create admirable performance. We want to express
our capacity for excellence. This giving, whether
through assisting others or achieving breakthroughs, is
the highest symbol of excellence in our innocent
eyes.

p.109-110). Excellence every day: make the
daily choice - inspire your employees and amaze your
customers. Medford, NJ: Information Today,

Maple Creek Artisan Center and
School
Located between the
river communities of Moscow and Neville in Clermont
County, Maple Creek Artisan Center and School
provides the community an opportunity to enrich their
lives through art by participating in classes
and workshops in traditional Appalachian arts. It
is the vision of Maple Creek Artisan School to expand
and grow into a regional destination for artisans and
become a nationally recognized Traditional Arts
School. Classes are offered in many traditional
Appalachian art forms including pottery, wood crafts,
blacksmithing, basketry, and stained glass.
The Maple Creek Artisan Center and
School are housed in a historic restored log
building, where the 5,000 square foot
gallery provides traditional handcrafted
artists a place to sell and teach their craft.
The gallery is a perfect place to find a unique gift
rich in Appalachian heritage. In addition to the
gallery, Maple Creek Artisan Center operates one of the
largest wood fired kilns in Ohio and is open to the
public. As interest has grown in the Artisan Center and
School, plans are underway to build a new pottery studio
on the hill behind the gallery. To assist
in fundraising for this project, the Center has started
a Buy-A-Brick program. The bricks, made from clay
donated by local resident Gary Adkins, will be formed,
engraved and fired on site by volunteers. These bricks
will be the facade of the new studio. For more
information on the Maple Creek Artisan Center and
School, please visit its website: www.maplecreekart.org/index.html.
