  1. Literacy Council Open House
The Literacy Council of Clermont and Brown Counties is holding an Open House on Friday, December 9, 2005 from 11:00 AM until noon. The session will provide you with an update about the agency, its accomplishments and plans. Check out the flyer on their web site.

  2. Executive Orientation Program offered in January/February
Spaces are filling up quickly for the 2006 First Impressions Executive Orientation Program, which will be held on January 26, February 3 and February 9. Clermont 20/20 offers this program to newly promoted or relocated executives and professionals in Clermont County, and their spouses, to provide an unparalleled opportunity to learn about and become involved in Clermont County. First Impressions provides an overview of the history, government, culture and economics of the community in three class meetings. This fast-paced, interactive program also offers an opportunity for informal discussion with recognized community leaders to help establish ties and to develop valuable contacts among peers in Clermont County. 3. Welcome to Clermont County!
The next time you're entering the southern gateway of our great county, take a moment to notice the new "Welcome to Clermont" signage that greets visitors and residents alike. Clermont 20/20 Clean and Green is pleased to be the leader in making this project happen for our community. Most importantly, Clermont 20/20 would like to thank The Midland Company, Southwest Sign and Stone and The Appalachian Ohio Council for their support in the installation of the new Welcome to Clermont County sign that was recently installed at the I-275 and SR 125 entrance/exit ramps on the south side of SR 125.

The visual improvement of our gateways has been a Clermont 20/20 project through the Clean and Green as part of our focus on beautification. There will be many opportunities to assist with the landscaping of this site in 2006 and the years to come. This collaborative effort will provide a sincere welcome to our community for all who travel through this major gateway of Clermont County.

  4. Mentors Needed
Volunteer mentors urgently needed to begin working with freshman students at Amelia High School, Williamsburg High School and Glen Este High School in January. The Clermont 20/20 provides a mentoring program at several Clermont County high schools for youth identified as at-risk of dropping out of high school: To prepare the students for completing secondary education. To give students enough attention and skill building tools so each reaches his/her personal potential. To create meaningful relationships between students and adult mentors. For students to create life goals and to achieve academic success to further their educational and career objectives. We ask that two mentors per class commit to 35 to 45 minutes of class time each week of the school year to work with a group of 10 to 15 students. These students have potential, but do not have positive role models in their lives. The mentoring program offers a high level of support and technical assistance, as well as the opportunity to network with other mentors who are successfully in their second, third and fourth years of this program.

Mentor and Senior Leadership graduate, Gene Bishop, who is in his fourth year working with the class who are now seniors (as you can see, they are close to graduation!) shares, "This has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have had. To notice the change from "children" in 9th grade to "young adults" at the end of the 11th grade shows me that there is hope. We have taken these 9 people and changed their lives for the better. They now can look people in the eye when they speak, can talk to groups of people, and have improved their grade point average significantly since we started. Also, none of them thought they could go on to higher education, now all are looking toward college, trade school or the service to help them to a more secure future. The biggest thing is they now have a sense of "value". I think anyone who is willing to take an interest in a few students will feel the same. I can't wait to get back for their Senior Year in High School."

Please consider this worthwhile opportunity. For more information, take a look at this flyer , or contact Cindy Jenkins at 753.9222 or by email at cindy.jenkins@clermont2020.org.
